DESCRIPTION:Following by the technology innovation\, lots of industrial as
sets \ntend to multi-functional and highly integrated. This is scale up th
e \ncomplexity of the asset. To keep the asset at high availability\, \nma
intenance action is critical. Condition based maintenance is a \nmaintenan
ce action based on health of asset which is provided from \ncondition moni
toring. It can reduce unnecessary inspection and system \nshutdown. There
is a great interest in condition based maintenance from \nboth theoretical
and industrial fields in the past 50 years. However\, \ncondition based m
aintenance for complex system is still problematic\, \nespecially\, when t
he system has severe fault propagation among their \nsubsystems. In this p
aper\, a layered top down model is proposed to \nrepresent the asset as a
group of interdependent components. The top layer \nuses continue time Mar
kov chain to calculate the optimal inspection \ninterval and maintenance t
hreshold with considering accelerated \ndeterioration caused by fault prop
agation. The down layer of the model \nanalyzes the fault propagation in c
omponents and in turn calculates \ndeterioration rate of the accelerated d
eterioration. This model provides a \ngood accuracy on modeling a complex
asset. In addition\, it overcomes the \nproblem of exponentially increased
complexity with the number of components \nin the asset. The working case
of the project is mainly on power \ntransformer.\n
