DESCRIPTION:Genomic explorations into the heritable genetic basis of the i
nterindividual differences in drug response have recently started. The mo
st comprehensive approach utilized so far has been the application of geno
me-wide association studies (GWAS) to patients phenotyped with a variety o
f clinical endpoints. Using oncology as the case model\, this presentation
will describe 1) the current status of GWAS in oncology\, with a focus on
heritable markers\, 2) the journey of finding associations that have a pl
ausible biological and mechanistic basis\, 3) the clinical implications of
improving therapies in oncology by using heritable genetic information.
