Casuistry - Ian Hunter (University of Queensland)

DESCRIPTION:In order to develop a properly historical comparison between K
ant’s philosophical cosmopolitanism and Vattel’s law of nations\, one
must first work out how to historicise Kant’s metaphysics. This is the p
recondition for situating Kant’s cosmopolitanism as expressing the outlo
ok or ‘stance’ of a particular kind of intellectual culture and factio
n\, thereby enabling it to be situated alongside (not above) Vattel’s la
w of nations\, the expression of a different kind of outlook and culture.
