DESCRIPTION:The response of submerged structures subject to loading by und
 erwater blast waves is strongly affected by fluid-structure interaction ph
 enomena\, which are governed by complex physics.  In this seminar\, an exp
 erimental technique is presented to examine the underwater blast response 
 of various structural systems via direct observation of the structural res
 ponse as well as cavitation processes in the water. In addition\, analytic
 al models will be presented which provide a solid foundation for understan
 ding the underlying physics.
