DESCRIPTION:Come and hear new CL visitor Pilgrim Beart introduce himself. 
 Pilgrim will share some experiences of building an early Internet of Thing
 s platform\, and talk about the future of the IoT: Why is it happening now
  (or not) and what are the opportunities and challenges of connecting bill
 ions of devices in our homes\, offices & factories.\n\nTopics include: We 
 cannot all be the centre\; What are the common needs that all IoT applicat
 ions share?\; What features do all IoT customers want?\; The rise of horiz
 ontal platforms. Interesting problems\, including: Common Semantics\; Debu
 gging distributed systems\; Gossip protocols\; “Rules” that move autom
 atically move/partition to run in the right place\; Energy efficiency\; Ar
 e nodes in a Pubsub graph rather like neurons?\n\nPilgrim Beart FIET has a
  passion to change the world for the better. He has 25 years’ experience
  leading innovation in ground breaking\, high-technology companies\, three
  of which he co-founded. After a degree\nin Computer Engineering\, Pilgrim
  designed innovative computer systems at start-ups in Cambridge and Oxford
 \, then for six years led technology teams in three start-ups in Silicon V
 alley. In 1998 he headed back to\nhis home town of Cambridge\, UK where ov
 er the past 15 years he has co-founded three companies: activeRF (indoor l
 ocation systems)\, antenova (multi-band smartphone antenna systems)\, and 
 AlertMe (a Smart Home\nplatform used for Home Energy Management) where he
