DESCRIPTION:Since KS3 tests were abandoned in 2010\, there has been a sign
ificant increase in the proportion of students entered for GCSEs early –
e.g. in Year 9 or Year 10\, rather than at the end of Year 11.\n\nLooking
at both OCR data and national data\, we will discuss the magnitude of ear
ly entry\, look at whether early entry has any negative impact on candidat
es achieving good grades\, and whether there is any evidence that early en
try has an impact upon A level subject choices and subsequent attainment a
t A level. We will also discuss future scenarios and whether the ‘linear
isation’ of GCSEs is likely to increase or decrease the practices of ear
 ly entry in schools.
