 llaborative\, an international\, multi-disciplinary quality improvement co
llaborative to improve tracheostomy care worldwide. \n\nThe talk will be o
n *'Great healthcare in a complex world: It's you AND the system'* in Lect
ure Room 5\, in the Engineering Department on *Monday 15 April at 11:00*.\
n\nDr Roberson has been on Harvard Medical School's faculty of the program
for Patient Safety and Quality since 2005. This will be an invaluable opp
ortunity to examine the American perspective on the issue of safety and qu
ality.\n\nThe talk will be starting with welcome speech and the introducti
on of the Engineering Design Centre Healthcare Group by *Prof John Clarkso
n*\, the Director of Cambridge Engineering Design Centre. \n\n\n*Plan:*\n\

and science in the Peace Corps in Nepal. He graduated from the University
of North Carolina Medical School with honors in 1988 and then spent a year
in a basic science lab studying cell division in the inner ear. He comple
ted an two-year preliminary program in General Surgery at Virginia Mason H
ospital in Seattle from 1989-1991\, residency in Otolaryngology at the Uni
versity of Washington in Seattle from 1991-1995 and a fellowship in Pediat
ric Otolaryngology at Children's Hospital Boston in 1995-1996. He has been
on the full-time faculty at Children's Hospital Boston since 1996. He is
founder and CEO of The Global Tracheostomy Collaborative\, an internationa
l\, multi-disciplinary quality improvement collaborative to improve trache
ostomy care worldwide. \n\n*Research Overview:*\n\nDr. Roberson studied ha
ir cell regeneration in the inner ear from 1988-2003. Since 2003\, his res
earch has focused on quality and safety in Otolaryngology and in Pediatric
 s. He has led several major national studies investigating causes and solu
tions of errors and adverse events in Otolaryngology. He has developed a n
ovel tool\, the "complexity ruler\," which makes it possible to measure th
 e complexity of a child's disease\nand medical care\, and has demonstrated
that complexity is a risk factor for adverse events at Children's Hospita
 l Boston.\n\n*Key Publications:* \n\nShah RK\, Kentala E\, Healy GB\, Robe
