SUMMARY:Jasmonates from top to bottom – functions in development and bio
tic interactions of plants - Bettina Hause\, Leibniz Institute of Plant B
 iochemistry\, Halle\, Germany

DESCRIPTION:Phytohormones\, among them jasmonic acid (JA) and its derivati
ves\, are known to play a role in responses of plants to various stresses\
, but also in developmental processes. Prominent examples for both are giv
en by the plant interactions with beneficial or pathogenic microorganisms
and the flower development\, respectively. The functional analysis of JA i
n these processes is the main focus of our research and is performed by bi
ochemical\, reverse genetic\, and cell biological approaches. The topics p
resented within the talk are (1) interactions of plant roots (Medicago tru
ncatula) with soil-born microorganisms (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi\, rhi
zobia\, pathogens)\, (2) the role of JA in flower development of tomato\,
and (3) the visualization of JA on tissue and cell-specific level.
