DESCRIPTION:In a village school in rural Cambodia\, where there is only on
e teacher teaching nearly 200 students from four villages and not enough b
asic stationery and textbooks to go around\, we built them a library. This
seminar shares the process from conceptualizing to implementation of choo
sing English books for this village school in a Khmer-speaking local commu
nity\, including all the unresolved logistics questions and ideological im
plications. As part of a bigger project under a Hong Kong-based NGO\, Proj
ect Little Dream\, the seminar would also share the other projects during
our last visit over Christmas\, such as teacher training workshops.\n\n*Sp
 eaker’s Bio:*\n\nFaye is a PhD student in PLACE\, reading children’s l
iterature. The seminar is a project with little \nrelevance to her current
studies\, but it gives a glimpse into her research in cultural representa
tions and cultural experience through reading. \n\n\n
