DESCRIPTION:Many interesting phenomena occur in macromolecules and materia
l structures that are poised between rigid and flexible. We describe the m
odern theory of\nrigidity and show how it can be used to analyze networks
of constraints. Examples are given from the jamming of spheres and other s
hapes\, zeolites\,\nprotein folding and the newly discovered 2d silicate g
lasses where an unexpected symmetry emerges from the disorder as a result
 of self-organization.
