DESCRIPTION:The past 30 years have witnessed rapid evolution and growing d
 emand for assistive reproductive technologies (ARTs): technologies that as
 sist in achieving and monitoring a pregnancy. The ART market is a unique o
 ne – fueled by parents willing to go to great lengths to conceive. The d
 emand is high and desire deep. ARTs have led to medical service markets\, 
 and markets for gametes and surrogacy. The focus of this lecture will be o
 n the market of egg donation in Canada – a market in which donors are in
  scarce demand. Based on qualitative interviews conducted with Canadian in
 tended parents\, egg donors\, and fertility specialists\, this lecture wil
 l examine the barriers and ethical dilemmas faced by intended parents seek
 ing donor eggs. Additionally\, this lecture will address the implications 
 of this data for Canadian regulation surrounding the use of donor eggs.
