DESCRIPTION:Dr June Stevens is Chair of the Department of Nutrition at the
  University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the American Institute fo
 r Cancer Research Distinguished Professor. Dr Stevens is an obesity epidem
 iologist with a large research program focusing on the causes\, consequenc
 es\, and prevention of obesity in different populations. She was the princ
 ipal investigator of the Coordinating Center for Pathways and the Trial of
  Activity in Adolescent Girls (TAAG)\; two large national trials that exam
 ined obesity and physical activity in children and adolescents. She is cur
 rently principal investigator of the Coordinating Center for the Childhood
  Obesity Prevention and Treatment Research (COPTR) Consortium.  She is als
 o leading research to examine and compare differences in the impact of obe
 sity on morbidity and mortality in African Americans\, Asians and Whites. 
 Dr. Stevens has served as an obesity expert for the National Institutes of
  Health\, the Centers for Disease Control\, the Institute of Medicine and 
 the World Health Organization.
