DESCRIPTION:Dr Wen Hu will be giving a CSIC Seminar on Compressive Sensor
Networks and their Applications on Thursday 22 August 2013\, 4pm in LR6.\n
\nDr. Hu is a Visiting Researcher at the Swedish Institute of Computer Sci
ence (SICS). His current position is Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO
Computational Informatics where he leads a talented research team working
in pervasive information systems at Autonomous Systems Laboratory. Much o
f Dr Hu’s research career has focused on novel applications\, low-power
communications and security issues in sensor networks and pervasive comput
ing systems. He has recently become interested in the applications of comp
ressive sensing in Internet of Things (IoT). \n\nDr Hu publishes regularly
in top rated sensor network venues such as ACM/IEEE IPSN\, ACM SenSys\, E
WSN\, ACM transactions on Sensor Networks (TOSN)\, proceedings of the IEEE
\, and ad-hoc networks. Dr Hu received his PhD from the University of New
South Wales (UNSW)\, in Computer Science and Engineering. He is a recipi
ent of the prestigious CSIRO Office of Chief Executive (OCE)\, Julius Care
er Award (2012 - 2015) and CSIRO OCE postdoctoral grant. Dr Hu holds adjun
ct Associate Professor positions at Queensland University of Technologies\
, University of Queensland\, and University of New South Wales. He is a se
nior member of ACM and IEEE\, and serves on the organising and program com
mittees of networking conferences/workshops including ACM/IEEE IPSN\, ACM
 SenSys\, ACM MobiSys\, IEEE LCN\, IEEE ICC\, IEEE WCNC\, IEEE DCOSS\, IEE
E GlobeCom\, IEEE PIMRC\, and IEEE VTC.\n\nDr Hu will speak about the way
sensor networks have revolutionised the way we observe the environment. In
his talk he will introduce a few sensor networks deployed by CSIRO\, whic
h include a micro-climate and multimedia sensor network deployed in a Nati
onal Park and a continental flying fox tracking network. He will also focu
s on recent work in structure monitoring with sensor networks. \n\nThis pr
omises to be a stimulating talk tailored to CSIC and all staff/students ar
 e encouraged to attend.\n
