SUMMARY:Multiscale Cell Based Modelling of Tissues - James Osborne\, Unive
 rsity of Oxford

DESCRIPTION:When investigating the development and function of tissues it
is not enough to only consider the behaviour of individual cells in isolat
ion. How cells interact\, both biochemically and mechanically\, influences
the resulting tissues form and function. In this talk we present a multis
cale modelling framework for simulating the development and function of ti
ssues. Utilising the natural structural unit of the cell\, The framework
consists of three main scales: the tissue level (macro-scale)\; the cell l
evel (meso-scale)\; and the sub-cellular level (micro-scale)\, with multip
le interactions occurring between all scales. To illustrate the framework
we will present a selection of example applications drawn from the areas
of Development\, Cancer and Tissue Engineering
