DESCRIPTION:Radiation therapy is an important tool in the fight against ca
ncer\, allowing the treatment of cancerous tumours beyond reach of traditi
onal surgery. The successful use of external beam radiotherapy has led to
an increase of life expectancy of cancer patients\, and late toxicity effe
cts associated to irradiation of healthy tissue are becoming more relevant
. Late toxicity effects span from tumour growth to second cancer developme
nt.\nThe GHOST project (www.ghost-project.org) aims to help evaluating the
risk of expressing these effects by simulating dose depositions in the hu
man body over the entire treatment. This seminar will give an overview of
the project and its current status.
