DESCRIPTION:Preliminary results of a numerical study are presented\, which
  show the\nexcitation of electroacoustic modes of vibration in GaAs/AlGaAs
 \nheterostructure devices\, due to abrupt changes of the voltages applied 
 to\nsurface gates\, through piezoelectric coupling. The results are potent
 ially\nsignificant for GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dot device applications which a
 pply\nvoltage pulses to the surface gates in order to perform coherent\nma
 nipulation of electron charge or spin. The mechanism by which these\nvibra
 tional modes may lead to decoherence in a charge-based quantum logic\ngate
  is briefly discussed.\n\n
