DESCRIPTION:White spaces are unused fragments of spectrum over space and t
ime. TV white spaces refer to white spaces in the UHF TV bands post the sw
itch-over to DTV. To promote efficient use of spectrum and increase the av
ailability of spectrum for wireless data communications purposes\, regulat
ors in several countries have decided to allow unlicensed access to TV whi
te spaces subject to interference protection for the primary users of that
spectrum (DTV receivers and microphones). Geolocation databases are being
widely seen as the most practical way to enable such use in the near futu
re. In this talk\, I’ll focus on the use of TV white space (TVWS) spectr
um for in-home wireless communications. Specifically\, I will present an a
uctioning based framework along with a mechanism that leverages the geoloc
ation database to coordinate the secondary use of TVWS spectrum for better
spectrum sharing and interference management between home networks.
