DESCRIPTION:I shall introduce some research from our current programme. T
his is\nfocused on establishing and testing a theoretical framework that\n
enables us to understand invasion\, persistence\, scale and variability\no
f epidemics within changing agricultural landscapes. The framework\nis us
ed to identify methods that improve the efficiency of disease\ncontrol and
reduce the risk of failure. The research involves a\nsynthesis of epidem
 iological theory\, population genetics\, landscape\necology and economic m
odelling as well as a complementary experimental\nprogramme to test models
 . Mathematically\, I shall select some\nproblems involving non-linear opt
 imization\, incorporation and\ninterpretation of stochasticity in models\,
  percolation and parameter\nestimation. \n\n
