DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:* In the future urban heat island effects may combin
e with climate change warming to create thermally uncomfortable localised
urban microclimates that could have adverse impacts on internal comfort co
nditions. Mesurements and modelling studies have been undetaken in three l
ocations (UK\, Egypt and Bahrain) to examine in urban form factors can be
effective in moderating adverse urban microclimates.\n\n*Biography:* Profe
ssor Steve Sharples is Head of Sustainable Environmental Design in the Sch
ool of Architecture at the University of Liverpool. His research investiga
tes the environmental impact and performance of buildings and urban enviro
nments in the context of climate change and low carbon\, sustainable desig
