DESCRIPTION:Sobriety is a topological property\, identifying t
hose spaces which are completely determined by (th
e frame structure of) their topology. This notion
will be introduced focusing on its category-theore
tic properties\, and in particular by making use o
f the language of monads and algebras.\n\nRecently
(2002) Paul Taylor has proposed the notion of abs
tract sobriety\, generalising that of sobriety to
a categorical setting. It will be shown in which r
egard the new definition is an extension of the st
andard one\, as well as some of its properties.\n\
nFinally the notion of abstract sobriety will be a
pplied to the category of equilogical spaces\, a c
artesian closed extension of Top. In this setting
the notions of standard and abstract sobriety coin
cide\, while other properties seem more problemati
c.\n
