DESCRIPTION:*ABSTRACT*\n\nI shall describe the basic physical and geometri
cal principles available for the design and construction of X-ray telescop
es and show how these\nhave been used in producing existing X-ray telescop
es like XMM-Newton and the Chandra Observatory. I'll then consider the new
technologies being developed for the next generation of X-ray telescopes
which we hope will move X-ray astronomy in to a new era. Finally\, if time
permits\, I'll consider how we might develop new technologies to exploit
the true potential of X-rays working at the diffraction limit.
