DESCRIPTION:*Abstract*\n\nIn the first part of my talk I will present resu
 lts from a set of high resolution cosmological simulations focusing on the
  formation of the first galaxies in the Universe. I will discuss the impac
 t of the baryons on the hosting dark matter haloes as well as the physical
  processes that drive the evolution of these galaxies. In the second part 
 of my talk I will introduce a methodology to extract effective models from
  such simulations to break the degeneracy of sub-grid physical models in c
 osmological simulations.
