DESCRIPTION:_This talk is free for members of BioSoc or £2 for non-member
 s. You can also sign up for life membership (£15) at this talk._\n\nUnder
standing the brain is probably the greatest scientific challenge of \nour
century. I will briefly review how work at the level of neural \ncircuits
can provide mechanistic understanding of brain function. I will \nthen exp
lain why the fruit fly\, Drosophila\, is one of the preeminent \nmodel sys
tems for this work. The remainder of the talk will then show \nhow my grou
p studies differences in the structure and function of neural \ncircuits b
etween male and female flies. This has recently resulted in \nthe descript
ion\, for the first time in any animal\, of a sexually \ndimorphic circuit
switch that reroutes sex pheromone information between \nmale and female
 brains.
