DESCRIPTION:We are currently at an exceptional moment in science where sop
 histicated theoretical and experimental techniques in contemporary quantum
  theory are allowing the detailed interrogation of quantum dynamics of the
  molecular components of living organisms\, in conditions that are physiol
 ogically relevant. We are therefore on a promising scientific path to unve
 il the possible roles of non-trivial quantum phenomena in biomolecular fun
 ctions. In this talk\, I will describe current research and advances on th
 e understanding of non-trivial quantum effects in light-initiated reaction
 s in biology as well as some of the main challenges that are yet to be add
 ressed.
