DESCRIPTION:The need for more efficiency and flexibility in research and a
 cademia requires tools providing not only the basic building blocks but al
 so access to tweaking and customisation. The Python language has grown ove
 r the last 15 years into a scientific computing ecosystem. This ecosystem 
 allows some of the major firms on the planet to use it as the language of 
 choice to solve their computing problems. Python is also widely used in re
 search as an open alternative to some of the 3rd party vendor softwares. T
 his talk will be a journey through the scientific computing stack of Pytho
 n. Topics covered will go from the basics of the language to parallel comp
 uting and optimisation.
