DESCRIPTION:In mid 2010\, to my considerable surprise\, I found myself to
be the proud owner of the genome sequence of the domestic pigeon. Although
it had been on my list of things to accomplish\, I found myself in the aw
kward situation of having enthusiastic colleagues at BGI pushing to publis
h it\, but no story to tell. Never one to turn down a challenge\, I spent
the next 3 years trying to rectify this\, and thus commenced a burgeoning
love affair with the flying rat of our cities. What we did\, and what it t
aught me about genomics\, is the story I will tell.\n\n
