DESCRIPTION:Discussion will be opened by two internationally prominent aca
 demics who have dramatically different perspectives on the question.\n\nPr
 ofessor Gillian Crampton-Smith founded the influential\npostgraduate progr
 amme in Computer-Related Design at the Royal College of Art\, and was foun
 ding director of the Institute for Interaction Design in Ivrea\, Italy.\n\
 nProfessor Mike Gregory is director of the Cambridge-MIT \nInstitute\, and
  professor of manufacturing engineering in Cambridge.\n\nThe discussion wi
 ll consider questions of the proper relationship between the academy and i
 ndustry\, the role of media in transforming that relationship\, and the re
 levance of cross-disciplinary research to technology.\n\nThis event is sup
 ported by Microsoft Research Cambridge\, and the Crucible Network for Rese
 arch in Interdisciplinary Design.\n
