DESCRIPTION:We discuss shock reflection problem for compressible gas dynam
 ics\, and von Neumann \nconjectures on transition between regular and Mach
  reflections. Then we will talk about \nrecent results on existence of reg
 ular reflection solutions for potential flow equation up to \nthe detachme
 nt angle\, and discuss some techniques. The approach is to reduce the shoc
 k reflection problem to a free boundary problem for a nonlinear equation o
 f mixed elliptic-hyperbolic type. Open problems will also be discussed. Th
 e talk is based on the joint work with Gui-Qiang Chen. \n\n
