DESCRIPTION:The magnetic carpet model of Meyer\, Mackay\, van Ballegooijen
& Parnell (2011) successfully simulated the realistic evolution of small-
scale photospheric magnetic fields on the Sun\, and reproduced many observ
ed results. We have now extended this model to cover the full Sun as part
of the development of a realistic\, global model for the surface evolution
of solar magnetic fields. At present\, the model simulates only smaller-s
cale magnetic fields. This in itself is an interesting case to study\, as
one possible scenario for the Sun during a grand minimum in activity is th
at there would be no active regions or larger scale magnetic activity. Her
e we present initial results from simulations of the global\, quiet Sun ma
 gnetic field.
