DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 20 May\, Professor Peter Stohschneider\, the Presid
 ent of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG – German Research Counci
 l) will be a guest of the Department. Strohschneider is a distinguished me
 dievalist whose interests and publications extend to the role and purpose 
 of the humanities in general\, both within the academy as well as in socie
 ty at large (see "Website Prof Strohschneider":http://dfg.de/dfg_profil/gr

 ridge he will be delivering the D.H. Green Lecture (held annually in memor
 y of Dennis Green\, Schröder Professor of German\, 1979-1990) on the subj
 ect of The Humanities and Society.
