DESCRIPTION:The Hermite functions are close to heart of numerical\nanalysi
 s and mathematical physics\, forming an orthonormalbasis of the\nspace of 
 square integrable functions with favourable approximation\nproperties. The
  Hagedorn wave packets generalize the Hermite functions\nto several dimens
 ions\, allowing for a flexible localization in\nposition and momentum\, wh
 ile satisfying a three term recurrence\nrelation and a Rodrigues formula. 
 We review known and new properties of\nHagedorn wavepackets and use them f
 or a Galerkin discretization\nof Schrödinger type equations from the phas
 e space point of view.
