SUMMARY:Understanding mechanisms of long-range gene regulation. - Dr Greg

DESCRIPTION:There is great emphasis on cataloguing functional elements in
the human genome. However\, we understand little of their evolution\, thei
r grammar or the mechanisms by which they regulate gene expression. Rather
than the current trend\, encouraged by high throughput technologies\, of
collecting these elements\, I am interested in discovering how a particula
r set of highly conserved non-coding elements (CNEs) have evolved\, how th
ey mediate their function and what their role might be in shaping phenotyp
 e and genetic disease.
