DESCRIPTION:The inertial range properties of fluid turbulence is well desc
ribed by Kolmogorov's theory that yields energy spectrum as k^-5/3^. The b
uoyancy however acts as a forcing at all scales\, and it could change the
phenomenology dramatically. In this talk we show using direct numerical si
mulation and arguments based onthe kinetic energy flux that the stably str
atified flows exhibit k^-11/5^ energy spectrum. This is the first such num
erical verification. The convective turbulence however still exhibits k^-5
/3^ due to interesting balance between the forcing and dissipation. We als
o demonstrate the above scaling using shell model\nof buoyancy-driven turb
 ulence.
