DESCRIPTION:I'll talk about why open data matters\, and how we try to chan
 ge the world with it at Open Knowledge. I will also cover some of the seem
 ingly disparate things I've worked on since my PhD\, and the joys and chal
 lenges of systems which have people in them. \n\nBio: Dr Laura James is CE
 O of Open Knowledge\, and Co-Founder of Makespace\, Cambridge's community 
 inventing shed. Laura was previously first employee and VP Engineering at 
 AlertMe\, building a pioneering internet of things connected home system\,
  and was Head of Knowledge at Evi.com\, an AI which answers natural langua
 ge questions.  Laura has also worked at AT&T Labs in the US and UK\, and t
 he University of Cambridge. Laura is a Chartered Engineer\, holds Masters 
 and PhD degrees from the University of Cambridge\, and is an alumnus of th
 e Royal Academy of Engineering Leadership Award and NESTA Crucible fellows
 hip programmes.\n\n
