DESCRIPTION:Genome-wide association (GWA) mapping using 349 wild-collected
Arabidopsis thaliana accessions genotyped at 250k biallelic single nucleo
tide polymorphisms (SNPs) is starting to reveal the genetic architecture a
nd molecular mechanisms underlying natural variation in the capacity of A.
thaliana to accumulate mineral nutrients and trace elements (aka ionome).
Furthermore\, molecular ecological studies on standing populations of A.
thaliana in Catalonia\, Spain coupled with common garden experiments in th
e field in the same region are now starting to reveal the existence of loc
ally adapted populations of A. thaliana and a potential role for the ionom
ic variation identified by GWA mapping.
