DESCRIPTION:Morrison defined canonical coordinates near a maximal degenera
 tion point\nin the moduli of Calabi-Yau manifolds using Hodge theory.\nGro
 ss and Siebert introduced a logarithmic-tropical algorithm to provide\na c
 anonically parametrized smoothing of a degenerate Calabi-Yau.\nWe show tha
 t the Gross-Siebert coordinate is a canonical coordinate in\nthe sense of 
 Morrison.\nThe coordinates are given by period integrals which we compute\
 nexplicitly integrating over cycles constructed using tropical geometry.\n
 This is joint work with Siebert.
