DESCRIPTION:Decades of research have led to many exciting insights into de
velopment\, function and pathologies of the nervous system. Most of what
we currently know is based on biochemical signaling and genetics. However
\, cells live in a physical world and obey physical laws. Here I will int
roduce some examples how cellular forces\, tissue mechanics\, and also opt
ics contribute to the functioning of the nervous system\, and how understa
nding physical cell interactions may lead to novel treatment strategies of
currently incurable CNS disorders such as spinal cord injuries.
