DESCRIPTION:Sound Studies: Art\, Experience\, Politics is a three-day conf
erence featuring leading researchers and artists in the field. The confere
nce will include presentations by leading academics\, as well as a sound a
rt installation by an artist in residence\, and an evening Sound Art and C
riticism Salon.\n\nThe conceptual foundations of this conference are that
sound is a vast assemblage of multisensory experiences and multivalent con
ceptualisations\, and that sound is at once embodied\, social and politica
 l. Sound Studies: Art\, Experience\, Politics invites researchers to consi
der not only the relationship between sound and broader sensory perception
but also the social\, political and economic implications of sound. The c
onference will address two interrelated themes: Sound\, Society\, Politics
and Sound and the Body. Conference sessions will include papers on:\n\n-
 Gendered Sounds\n- Sound\, Conflict & War\n- Urban Phonography\n- Sound\,
 Embodiment & the Multisensory\n\nSound Studies: Art\, Experience\, Politic
s aims to draw attention to the international growth of sound studies\, an
d to emphasise the innovative and potentially subversive nature of researc
h that steps outside of the norms of academic investigation into visual an
 d textual materials.\n
