DESCRIPTION:To launch the Humanitarian Centre’s new themed year ‘Empow
 ered Voices’ 2014- 2015\, we are collaborating with CAFF and the French 
 Society (Trinity College) to produce a night of short films and a lively d
 iscussion panel. We are delighted to have a number of outstanding organisa
 tions joining us for the event\, including:\n\n*Dominique Chadwick* (Socia
 l Films\, Ghana-UK)\, *Brooks Marmon* (The Accountability Film School\, Li
 beria)\, *Laurinda Luffman* (Our Africa)\, and *Joshua McNamara* (Slum Fil
 m Festival) \n\nMainstream media portrayals of Africa have tended to forge
  a limited perception of this very diverse continent. This perception is l
 argely the result of narratives emerging through the ‘Western eye’\, b
 ecause of the inequity of opportunities of production and distribution of 
 films made in Africa by Africans. This selection of short films\, made in 
 a participatory manner\, strives to challenge these narratives\, and give 
 voice to those who have a right to be heard. Each of the projects featured
 \, though in different locations\, shares a commitment to empowering young
  Africans through film.\n\nThe event is FREE\; however\, donations are wel
