DESCRIPTION:Corruption is a concept we're all aware of. It pervades all as
 pects of our economy and can often have disastrous consequences. Every yea
 r almost $1 trillion is lost to corruption and illicit financial flows. In
  this talk I will introduce the characteristics of corruption\, how it is 
 measured and discuss the global distribution of corrupt practices. I will 
 discuss the subtle relationship between corruption and deaths in natural d
 isasters and suggest possible ways to combat it and\, thus\, save lives an
 d improve livelihoods.
