DESCRIPTION:There are several paradoxes in quantum gravity\, such as the i
 nformation loss paradox\, which seem to indicate a fundamental misundersta
 nding of the degrees of freedom of quantum gravity. In this colloquium som
 e recent ideas\, in which entanglement will play a crucial role\, about th
 e nature of these degrees of freedom will be explained.
