DESCRIPTION:Often shockwave experiments are described as vehicles for gath
ering Equation\nof State data\, but typically only pressure and volume are
recorded and\ntemperature is almost always neglected.\n\nRecently the SMF
Group has been making significant progress with developing\nfast-response
temperature gauges for use in shockwave experiments\, the\nexperimental r
esults of which will be presented in a forthcoming colloquium\n(next term)
.\n\nIn addition to the measured experimental values it is also of interes
t to\nconsider what temperatures are anticipated. In this colloquium the
problem\nwill be addressed for the polymeric material PMMA at two levels:
using the\nextant indirect experimental data to estimate the temperature r
ises and\nsecondly using Group Interaction Theory to predict the temperatu
re rises.\n\nAccurate and reliable experimental temperature data are neces
sary to fully\nconstrain the EOS and thereby more fully inform and validat
 e models of the\nsame.
