DESCRIPTION:The history of present day Greenlandic populations and how the
y adapted to living in such extreme environmental conditions remain unansw
ered questions. Dr. Fumagalli will address these issues by presenting the
analysis of extensive SNP data and exome sequencing data from individuals
across several geographical locations in Greenland. This study support evi
dence of a strong recent gene flow from Europe. Moreover\, the genetic var
iation patterns are consistent with a single colonization wave of the isla
nd going north to south to east. Additionally\, the study allowed the ide
ntification of regions under positive selection. These results shed light
on migratory events and adaptive processes of Greenlandic populations.
