SUMMARY:Whole-genome analysis of the structure and function of repressive
chromatin - Dr Bas van Steensel\, The Netherlands Cancer Institute

DESCRIPTION:Several types of chromatin protein complexes are thought to me
diate repression of transcription\, often by packaging of DNA into compact
structures. We have begun a systematic genome-wide analysis of the genomi
c binding patterns of the most important repressive complexes: "classical"
heterochromatin proteins\, Polycomb Group proteins\, histone H1\, and nuc
lear lamina proteins. These genome-wide maps provide detailed and often su
rprising insights into the functions and interactions of these complexes.
