DESCRIPTION:Intermetallic reactions have a number of possible industrial a
 pplications and have been the subject of much research effort. The underly
 ing physics of the reactions\, and of the use of these composite materials
  in structural components however\, is not fully understood. This talk wil
 l examine the results of a number of research projects conducted at the Ca
 vendish\, with a variety of international collaborators\, that aimed to sh
 ed some light on these issues.
