DESCRIPTION:Use of semiconductor technology has allowed investigation of q
uantum effects which occur when electrons are confined in dimensions less
than three. When the size of the system is less than the scattering mean f
ree path then wave function coherence dominates the transport properties
giving rise to macroscopic quantum phenomena such as the conductance takin
g values ne2/h where n is an integer and e is the fundamental electron cha
rge\, h is Planck's constant. This effect and a number of other quantum pr
 operties will be discussed.
