DESCRIPTION:There is a steadily increasing use of hyperspectral imaging in
optical diagnostics and tissue characterization. The flexibility of this
technique allows imaging of larger samples and -scenes\, as well as small
er samples such as biopsy material\, providing data with high spectral and
spatial resolution. This combination of high spatial and spectral resolut
ion makes hyperspectral imaging an attractive tool for optical diagnostics
. Hyperspectral images are typically in the order of GBs\, and processing
and interpretation of the data is challenging\, especially if results are
needed in real-time. This talk will address the use of hyperspectral imag
ing in medical diagnostics\, with a special emphasis on hyperspectral fluo
rescence imaging. It will be discussed how optical modeling can be combine
d with statistical analysis to extract and interpret information from hype
rspectral image data. Examples of in vivo and ex vivo hyperspectral imagi
ng and image processing in the UV\, VIS and NIR spectral ranges will be sh
 own.
