DESCRIPTION:In the presence of such a translation symmetry\, the 3 + 1 vac
 uum Einstein equations reduce\nto the 2 + 1 Einstein equations with a scal
 ar field. The main difficulty for proving stability is due to the weak d
 ecay\nof free solutions to the\nwave equation in 2 dimensions compared to 
 3 dimensions. This week decay seems to be a deterrent for proving global e
 xistence with the usual wave coordinate.\nIn this talk we will emphasis on
  the exterior behaviour of the solution\, which is very specific to 2+1 di
 mension\, and on the coordinate issue.
