DESCRIPTION:Wind energy is a significant UK electricity supply contributor
 \,\nwith offshore wind making a strong contribution over the next 20 years
 . How are other marine renewables\, wave and tidal growing?\n\nPeter Tavne
 r is an Emeritus Professor of the School of Engineering and Computing Scie
 nces at Durham University. He received an MA in Mechanical Sciences (1969)
  from Cambridge University\, a PhD (1978) from Southampton University\, st
 udying electromagnetism under Professor Percy Hammond\, and a DSc from Dur
 ham University (2012). He had served as a Weapons Electrical Officer in th
 e Royal Navy on the Guided Missile Destroyers\, BRISTOL & LONDON and subse
 quently taught at the University of Benin\, Nigeria. Following his PhD he 
 worked for the UK Electricity Supply Industry. He then held senior researc
 h\, development and technical positions in manufacturing industry\, most r
 ecently as Group Technical Director of FKI Energy Technology\, an internat
 ional business manufacturing electrical machines\, drives and wind turbine
 s  in the UK\, Holland\, Italy\, Germany and the Czech Republic.
