DESCRIPTION:Using a combination of lasers and other tools\, we can cool at
 omic gases to nanodegrees above absolute zero. At these extremely low temp
 eratures\, the laws of quantum mechanics become predominant\, and give ris
 e to remarkable collective phenomena\, such as Bose-Einstein condensation\
 , where many particles occupy the same single-particle quantum state. In t
 his talk\, I will show how we use these ultracold atoms to investigate the
  physics of complex many-body systems.
